As we open ourselves to education and the realities of history, we expose ourselves to the less rosy aspects of
specific events. This can overshadow the achievements in these events, perhaps rightfully so. One of these events is
Columbus Day, a celebration of the founding of America. Yet we are learning that America was already 'discovered' and
that Columbus engaged in numerous rather less than admirable practices.

Transform Columbus Day into a day of honouring Innovators, Pioneers, Frontiersmen (and women). As such, this
holiday would act to inspire students to find that same spirit within themselves and bring it to the forefront. And that
is an event worth celebrating.

This could also be an opportune time to formulate that list of national visions, another of the submitted proposals. And
Innovator Day could be used to award special Federal Grants to Innovators, with a special category for students.
