The 2008 Presidential campaign has been marked by an unprecedented surge in political interest and activity from younger demographic groups (eg <25). This interest is at the very core of the future of our country on all fronts. As a country we need to keep this interest alive AND express our gratitude for it. We profess the need to Unify and Collaborate across all groups and yet one of the largest demographics (<25) is excluded from the process. We profess the value in individuals expressing themselves. Now is our time to place these professings into action. Create a Student Cabinet Position. This position would be filled by rotating college students (perhaps selected by lottery) with staff members from high school and elementary schools. (This might encourage innovative colleges to create curriculums and degreed programs to this very end.) The position would be the voice of this far too often neglected age group, primary role being that of observer, but one who also engages. The holder of this position would participate in all general cabinet-level activities (but excluding certain predefined security level activities). As a collaborative requirement, the holder of this position would be required to provide an interactive platform of communication and feedback for students of all Universities and Colleges nationwide. Staff members would connect to other educational facilities, eg high schools and elementary schools. FYI: An argument for a true Elders Cabinet Position (ie one of Wisdom) could easily be made too. For now, i am starting with the Student/Youth. |
