The 2008 Presidential campaign has been marked by an unprecedented surge in political interest and activity from younger demographic groups (eg <25). This interest is at the very core of the future of our country on all fronts. As a country we need to keep this interest alive AND express our gratitude for it. We profess that education and citizen involvement are key components to our country. We profess that there is a greater need for transparency. Now is our time to place those professings into action. Create Student Journalism Positions (perhaps 5 positions) in the White House Press Corps. These positions would be filled (eg by lottery) by rotating college, high school and even grade school students. The President would be required to ask and answer a predetermined number of questions from these positions during each Press Conference. Holders of these positions would occasionally be given special access to the White House for special in-depth and exclusive educational reports. Holders of these positions would provide an interactive platform of communication and feedback to share their experiences eg via blogs, school 'papers'... |
